When learning the violin, you also work on your technique, music theory, rhythm, ear training and repertoire.

Mastering the right technique requires perseverance, patience and attention to detail. This is crucial to becoming a skilled violinist. Technology provides the basis for effective and expressive playing. By practicing technical exercises, scales and etudes, applying technique to your repertoire, you will feel confident playing the violin and expressing yourself musically.

Music theory and rhythm are necessary to learn an instrument. They are the foundation and from the very first lesson we will introduce you to the basics such as: keys, basic notation and rhythmic exercises. We will develop music theory by learning scales and intervals.

Ear training is the main key to playing the violin. As you know, the violin doesn’t have a marked fretboard like the guitar does, so it’s not easy to know where to put your finger to play the right note. Pushing your finger slightly backwards or upwards can make changes to the intonation. This is why it is important to be dedicated and hear every note to develop your intonation.

The other important aspects of ear training are tone production which is linked to ergonomics (body posture), phrasing and musical interpretation – the last two aspects are based on all of the above but the most important thing when it comes to phrasing and musical interpretation is to feel the music, as music comes from the heart.

Exploring different repertoire broadens your musical horizons. Each era has a different style of play, different technology, different level of difficulty, different innovations. Learning different repertoires exposes your musicality, technique and creativity.

All these aspects may seem like a lot to do, but it is not as difficult as it seems! You will receive guidance and help, support along the way. In lessons, we work on all these steps and we develop gradually.
